Tapes from the Ranger Station

The station had been closed since the fire. In the cabinet, forty hours of field recordings on cassette, labelled only with dates in a hand I did not recognise.

Thirty-eight hours of wind and insects. Then, without any change in the ambience, footsteps — beginning already close, circling the microphone at a walking pace, for the rest of the tape.
